Tropical Cyclone Charley

(Keywords: Storm, Damage - Florida)

Not since hurricane Andrew, had Florida taken the brunt of a major Tropical Cyclone. Charley, Category 4 Hurricane, made its impact on Friday the 13th, August 2004. Charley strengthened as it rounded Key West from Cuba. Turning Northeast, Charley came through the Boca Grande Inlet to Charlotte Harbor. After devastating the barrier islands (Ft Myers Beach, Sanibel, Captiva, Pine Island) the storm slammed the cities of Punta Gorda and Port Charlotte.
