Use your GPS to guide you to many of the homes and buildings designed by Addison Mizner in the 1920's. Mizner's designs were heavily influenced by Spanish-style architecture. Mizner was prolific and his style was adopted by others.

  1. St. Edwards Church - St. Edwards Church (circa 1927) features decorative stone, including Baroque bell tower and entrance. Across for St Edwards, visit the soda fountain at Greens Pharmacy.
  2. The Breakers - The Breakers is literally a landmark hotel. The twin cupolas on top of the hotel are visible at sea are an aid to navigation providing a reference to the nearby inlet and local dive sites.
  3. Bethesda-by-the-sea - Bethesda-by-the-sea Church. Built in the 1920's to replace the original church on the lake-side of the island. Park and tour the garden in the back of the church, or continue the tour down County Road.
  4. Mansion Row - Several extraordinary homes of Palm Beach can be seen along Ocean Boulevard. Here at 126 Ocean Boulevard is the Estee Lauder Mansion, built by Addison Mizner in 1919. The mansion was once owned by John Lennon.
  5. Phipps Plaza - The plaza's circular drive takes you past several beautifully designed buildings. Number 264, the coral house was designed by Addison Mizner.
  6. Downtown - Driving past downtown's Memorial Park you will see a fountain celebrating the influence of Addison Mizner on the local architecture. The Town Hall building is an example of Mizner work which has designed in the 1920's.
  7. Beach - There are few public beaches on the island of Palm Beach. Park here and walk north a few blocs to Midtown Beach, where the sand is wider.
  8. Worth Avenue - Along world-renown Worth Avenue, exclusive shops and galleries cater to whims of the wealthy.
  9. Casa de Leoni. - Located at 450 Worth Avenue is one of the best examples of Addison Mizner's architectural designs.
  10. Society of Four Arts - Gallery, Gardens and Library. The entrance to the library building is painted with a mural depicting art, music, drama, and literature.
  11. Flagler Museum - Flagler Museum, a 55-room mansion built by Henry Flagler in 1902, is open for tours.
  12. Sprinkles Ice Cream - Complete your driving tour of Palm Beach by stopping for delicious treats at Sprinkles Ice Cream Parlor.

To follow the tour, cross the northern most bridge from West Palm Beach to the island of Palm Beach - Flagler Memorial Bridge. Once on the island, turn left on Coconut Row, then right on Sunrise Avenue which will take you past the bicycle shop and on to the first tour point - Saint Edwards Church on the corner of Sunrise Avenue and County Road. Follow the tour clockwise, from St Edwards south on County Road.

Adventure Travel Tip

For more adventure, tour the north end of the island by bike. Park your car across from the bike shop on Sunrise Avenue and rent some wheels for the ride up to the inlet dock and back.
