"There's plenty to love at Loveland"

I was impressed with how fast and easy it was to get to Loveland and how good the snow was when we got there. It was early December, a marginal time for skiing in most parts of the country, but almost all the runs at Loveland were open and they had more snow than any other nearby resort.

At mid-day mid-week, travel time was about an hour-and-a-half from the Denver airport. However, the day-trippers were out in force during the weekend, forming a long line of traffic on I-70 in the mornings and evenings.

Loveland's base area is not a resort community, probably because of its close proximity to the west side of Denver - only 53 miles. We stayed about ten minutes away from Loveland in historic, rustic Georgetown. It's a small town with three budget motels, two bars, and only one place to get a good hot breakfast.
