Featuring,
The Foothills Trail and Mountain Bridge Wilderness

kiking and biking in carolinaThere's probably no mountain more photographed in South Carolina than Table Rock and there's no better place to start a 30+ mile bike n' hike than from Table Rock State Park.

The shear face of Table Rock monolith stands majestic over the piedmont.  From the summit , you can follow the ridge, bagging Pinnacle peak, and then drop precipitously down to hook up with the Foothills Trail.  The "FT" will lure you back up to the highest point in South Carolina - Sassafras Mountain.  Then, following the boarder between North and South Carolina on the FT's Caesars Head Spur, you'll be on the high road above some of the area's best bear, turkey and deer hunting grounds.  As you round the corner in Caesars Head State Park, you'll plummet past Raven Cliff Falls, dropping 1500' of vertical in a mile-and-a-half.  The terrain levels out a bit in the Matthews Creek area, where you'll emerge at the River Falls Fire Station and mount your bike.  After coasting through the Lakemont Community, you'll be impressed by the view from Dowthit Cove where you can see - in panoramic splendor - all of where you've been.

Here's a tip:  It's dangerous to hold your GPS while flying down the mountain from Caesars Head.  I know you will be tempted to clock you max speed (!) so I recommend you use the proper mounting bracket.*
