New version 5.4 has improved layering of landuse data showing lakes, rivers, topographic contours, vegetation, and roads much like paper topo maps. A rich point of interest database is included. 1. You must know the surburb in order to find an address. This is only an issue in the larger cities (Auckland, Christchurch, Wellington). If you type Auckland in the city block instead of the surburb while searching for an address, it won't find it, and unless you live in NZ, you're not likely to know the surburbs that well.
2. The maps for Auckland are outdated. The city has undergone a lot of construction since 2009 so you'll need to be on your guard and prepare for some redirects. So if you're going to spend your vacation in Auckland, find maps that are more recent.
Othat than that, a fabulous alternative to the Garmin, great customer support...if something's not working the way it should, they'll make it right!"
There were a few problems - such as the suburbs of central Auckland being required entry as cities when finding an address, and the additional display of a "phantom" parallel road in many stretches of highway though this did not affect navigation.
In comparison with the Garmin maps, I did like the additional information on cost/mileage of the trip that is displayed in Brent's map, and the speed limit display in Garmin. Most other information is quite similar.
All in all, the Brent's map of NZ is informative and very good for vehicular travel and would be excellent for hikes. I would use it again when traveling in New Zealand."
