  1. Northcove Outfitters: a friendly outdoor sporting goods retailer that has tons of supplies and evening weekly workshops and lectures.
  2. Saybrook Point: a scenic coastal view of the mouth of the Connecticut River. Driving west will give scenic views of the coast and an old lighthouse.
  3. Connecticut River Museum: located in Essex, the best small town in America.
  4. Pratt Cove: a small canoe & kayak put-in.
  5. River Park: a scenic riverside view of the Connecticut River; also featured in the map above just north of Eustasia Island.
  6. Goodspeed Opera House: a historical building and showplace along a scenic stretch of the CT River.
  7. Gillette Castle State Park: a historic castle residence of "Sherlock Holmes" with a vista of the river valley.
  8. Ferry: a unique 5-minute drive-on ferry ride under $5.
  9. Cedar Lake: a scenic lake for fishing, swimming or kayaking.
  10. Pattaconk Lake: located in Cockaponset State Forest, this small lake is a great fall hike or paddle. mountain biking is also very popular.
  11. Turkey Hill Reservoir: a scenic backcountry lake which can be found on the map above.
  12. 7 Falls Park: a rocky hiking area with large ledges and boulders. A popular hiking and bouldering area.
  13. Brownstone Park: a for-profit outdoor adventure park featuring rock climbing, cliff-diving, swimming, scuba, wake-boarding, mountain biking, zip-lines, canoeing, camping.
  14. Wadsworth Falls: a very scenic and large high-volume waterfall with nearby hiking trails.
  15. Lyman Orchards: pick your own apples from scenic hilltops, get lost in their corn maze and stop by the farmers market.
  16. Mount Higby: hike to the top of a 200 foot cliff with a scenic view and bring your climbing gear.
  17. Chatfield Hollow State Park: this is a surprisingly scenic area with many ledges and rock outcroppings. Hiking, swimming, rock climbing and mountain biking are very popular activities.
  18. Hammonasset Beach State Park: the largest and best beach in Connecticut; great for swimming and kiting.
