Submit Corrections to Digital GPS Maps
and Provide Feedback on Updates
Every week I get emails from business owners complaining that their place is either not on the map or is not in the correct location. While I am responsible for the map data published at TravelByGPS.com, I have little to do with the maps and point of interest data preloaded on car navigation devices. However, I can offer this advice:
1) Report errors to the agencies that provide maps for Garmin, Magellan, TomTom and others:
Tele Atlas -
Navteq "Map Reporter"
2) Use other popular location information channels to get the word out about your site:
Google Earth - The most popular geocentric online community allows you to add your own placemark so that every one who uses Google Earth software can see your location.
Geovative Solutions - Allows you to create your own "tours" and share with others in the community. Tours can be one site, a collection of business locations, or other related points of interest (POI). Premium subscribers can create GPS map "widgets" for dispersing location information online.
3) Make your location a GPS destination
If you can provide details about a nice little GPS adventure on or about your location, I would be interested in creating a page a TravelByGPS.com that features your business. This type of promotion is particularly suited for hotels, bed and breakfasts, resorts, lodges, and other traveler accommodations where customers are encouraged to explore their surroundings, taking in the sights. For example, the Alpine Meadows Lodge page at TravelByGPS.com features hiking trails.
